Community
Bankers Association of Kansas (CBA)
is a statewide organization of locally owned and operated banks
intent on preserving local credit for local development. As member
banks, we are as diverse as Kansas itself, as varied as the economies
and aspirations of the communities we serve.
Community bankers
maintain that customers and communities are best served by local
investment of deposit dollars, local lending decisions and local
ownership of financial institutions. Community banks play a significant
role in local economic development efforts, stimulating the economy
to produce jobs and new opportunities. As a group, community banks
are the primary lenders to agriculture, small business, individuals
and families.
CBA is the state's
only advocate working solely for the interests of community banks
and their customers.
Formed in 1978,
CBA has met the challenges of a changing financial industry, emerging
as an effective and committed voice for community banking in Kansas.
CBA's major thrust has been to preserve the independent community
banking structure in Kansas.

Our history
began in the 1960's when CBA was established as an ad hoc committee
by concerned bankers alarmed by a growing trend toward consolidation
of the banking industry. In 1978, the Kansas Independent Bankers
Association (KIBA) was founded by bankers bound together by a shared
philosophy that local bank ownership provided the best economic
development opportunity for local communities. Originally a political
body advocating preservation of competition in banking, protecting
states' rights to determine bank structure, and supporting the dual
banking system, the Association expanded its focus to meet other
types of member needs. In 1990, the membership voted to change the
name of the Association to the Community Bankers Association of
Kansas. Throughout the past years, and still today, we remain directed
by the members that we serve. Read through our Principles
for a look at our foundation philosophy. The Purpose
section provides information on CBA as it exists today.
There you can take a look at what CBA has to offer independently
owned community banks across the state of Kansas.

Today
bank personnel, from CEOs to tellers, must demonstrate a new
level of expertise in both technical knowledge and responsiveness
to customer needs.
Massive changes
in the competitive environment, asking every bank to do more with
less, have made CBAs educational programs more valuable than
ever.
Conducted year-round
at convenient locations throughout Kansas, these focused, content-rich
seminars and workshops address timely subjects for very reasonable
enrollment fees, with the most popular topics repeated periodically.
Each comes from
the direct perspective of the community banker.
Each combines
challenging, realistic problem-solving with open discussion among
all participants, whereby bankers learn from topical experts and
each other.
